Ever ask yourself

Why doesn’t my mix sound professional? How come my mix sounds small? Why does my mix sound low quality?

I have the answer for you.

keep in mind this is not the only way, this is what works for me.

The key to getting a great mix is to stop asking yourself those questions and ask the right questions.

what does this mix need? What can I do to clean it up?

Asking the correct questions is the first step to getting a great mix.

You open the session for the very first time and start to familiarize yourself with the song. Here is when you should ask,

What does this song sound like? What song does this one remind me of? What will be a good reference?

You can read more about Reference Tracks HERE.

Once your reference is selected you should start asking yourself,

How can I clean up this song? Where should everything sit? And what effects can I use?

And then begin your mix.

Hope this helps you get started on getting a great mix.
